Temperament and daily life
Gentle, sociable and eager to please. Goldens are usually good with families and learn quickly, but they need company and activity and may be mouthy as youngsters.
Health to keep an eye on
Commonly associated with hip and elbow problems, skin allergies, ear infections and a higher incidence of some cancers. Regular check-ups matter as they age.
Coat and grooming
Feathered double coat that sheds a lot; brush several times a week and keep the ears clean.
Best suited to
Active, sociable families who will include the dog in daily life.
General tendencies only: every animal is an individual. Health notes are not a diagnosis; ask your vet about your own pet.
Care notes
Prone to overweight and joint issues. Regular grooming.
