Temperament and daily life
Affectionate, clownish companions that bond closely with their people. They are not endurance athletes and tire quickly, but still enjoy short walks and play.
Health to keep an eye on
Flat-faced (brachycephalic) dogs commonly have breathing difficulty, heat intolerance, skin-fold and eye problems and sometimes back issues. Avoid heat and strenuous exercise and watch their weight.
Coat and grooming
Short, easy coat. Clean and dry the skin folds regularly.
Best suited to
Owners in a cool climate or with air conditioning who accept higher potential veterinary needs.
General tendencies only: every animal is an individual. Health notes are not a diagnosis; ask your vet about your own pet.
Care notes
Brachycephalic: extreme care with heat and intense exercise.
